1. The Incident Under the Fig Tree
To be clear, the Bible does not mention what Nathanael was doing under the fig tree. It only records Jesus’ statement that He saw Nathanael under the fig tree, and Nathanael’s astonishment, which led him to confess Jesus as the Son of God and the King of Israel.
Therefore, the scene of Nathanael’s contemplation under the fig tree in this story is entirely fictional. However, I didn’t want to simply make up the story out of thin air, so I wove it together using the prophecy of the baskets of figs from Jeremiah 24 and the words of Haggai 2, creating a narrative about someone struggling to live faithfully in a chaotic era.
